Abstract

For public libraries in developing countries to maintain their relevance in this 21st century, there is a need to embrace innovative library activities. Innovative library services entail converting old library services as well as creating new programmes that will aid in enhancing library services and activities. This literature-based opinion paper considers maker space acceptance and integration as a veritable tool for readjusting and enhancing public libraries in developing countries. The paper x-rayed the state of public libraries in developing countries, how public libraries can benefit from Makerspace, the competence required and strategies to achieve that. The paper concludes that services of the public libraries in developing countries should not comprise only those services and activities the literates stand to benefit from but should also include those innovative services that the non-literate will also benefit from.
